Duncan’s chosen his team

As part of his Liverpudlification, Duncan asked you which football team he should support

After opening up his phoneline and inbox to Merseyside’s internationally renowned footy fans Duncan’s now heard all he needs and chosen his team.

To be honest, the overwhelming response really only left him with one choice – Tranmere Rovers. The reds and blues applied in twos, but The Rovers showed their true colours and really grabbed the opportunity.

Not only did they outpace the response from LFC and Everton, the Tranmere boys really took the initiative, grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and sent Duncan his very own shirt.

So here’s Duncan Barkes proudly wearing the colours of his chosen team; Tranmere Rovers. Come on the whites! Promotion’s only round the corner!

Here’s a small taster of the arguments that Duncan received from some of Merseyside’s real fans, and some of the reasons he chose The Super Whites.

Hi Duncan

We are a real friendly club with loyal fan base and we bring football truly to the community in a number of ways. Learning centre, football in the community (school holiday training sessions, etc), weekly school visits by players and much much more.

Football does not just revolve around the glamour of the premiership so come on Duncan stay neutral on Liverpool & Everton and support Wirral’s club Tranmere.

Jim

p.s we were founded some 17 years before Liverpool!

C'mon Duncan

Come over the water and follow the mighty whites... Tranmere Rovers!

We may not be a large club, or win much but as a supporter you will feel part of the club and know your support is appreciated.

We are a friendly club, small but perfectly formed!

So come and join us Duncan - at least you won’t alienate either half of the city!

Craig

(…and you won’t get lost. We’re not moving ground or towns like the other big 2!)

Dear Duncan

Choose Tranmere.

Choose good, honest football.

Choose the buzz.

Choose a family atmosphere.

Choose Friday night football.

Choose a sporting time bomb just waiting to explode.

Choose the best football league hotdogs.

Choose a club that runs well on a shoestring budget.

Choose wearing a shirt that you can wear with pride.

Choose a ground where you can still enjoy the feel good factor.

Choose a team that hasn’t been spoilt by American money.

Choose watching footballers who still enjoy playing the game.

Choose to avoid the false god of the Premiership.

Choose the end of season surge towards the play offs with the somewhat optimistic hope of Championship football next season.

Choose to watch Paul McLaren lacing a 50 yard pass across Wembley’s hallowed turf to Jennison-Williams on the wing who arcs in a deep, inviting cross that’s acrobatically volleyed into the onion bag by the sublime Calvin Zola and weep without shame as Ian Goodison holds aloft the play off trophy.

Choose your future.

Choose Tranmere.

Yours

Darren

Duncan,

This is a real football club that has it's supporters at the heart of what it does. They provided free coach travel to FA Cup matches for it's loyal followers and offer reduced admission to encourage youngsters to go and watch 'live' football.

They may not be playing their football at the highest level but it is an honest level, where honest players play for an honest days wage. This gives the fans something very important - footballers they can relate to. These players don't live in fancy mansions with security gates, they work hard to pay their mortgages and support their families like the fans do.

When you support Tranmere Rovers you accept that this is not the purified atmosphere of the cosseted multi-millionaire football superstars but it is REAL football, played by REAL footballers for REAL supporters.

Remember, a football team is for life not just for the glory years in the Premiership / Europe.

TRANMERE ROVERS - You know it makes sense!

Duncan

With a name like Barkes how could you be anything else but a Rover? Seriously a great club who are on the up. You'd be barking not to!!

John - supporter man & boy (& old man) for 54 years.
