Katie Hall, a designer, illustrator, artist and contemporary painter, and John Pickering, an art therapist and qualified psychologist have just published ‘Beyond Photography’, the culmination of four years of  research and photography of these strange phenomena.

They joined Roy Basnett on Zone Unkown to talk about the strange phenomena that they have seen, what they think they are and where they seem to find the most of these mysterious Orbs.

‘Beyond Photography’ was published by O Books in December 2006.
It represented four years of experiences and hundreds of hours of photographs and research into the subject of orbs and related phenomena.

At the time, neither Katie nor I realised that we had photographed some of the most astounding images ever taken of paranormal phenomenon.

Beyond Photography was also the first book in the world to photographically document one couple’s personal encounters with such extraordinary visual manifestations.Subsequently we’ve had a full schedule, of conference presentations - both here and in the USA, and also media and magazine interviews about the book - and it was nice to know that it was a British contribution which was first in the field of studying the orb phenomenon.

The year after Beyond Photography came out in the UK - 'The Orb Project' by Miceal Ledwith and ex-NASA scientist, Klaus Heinemann, was published in the USA. Ledwith and Heinemann’s work, complimented or confirmed most of our own research - and from both sides of the Atlantic, orbs were now coming more clearly into focus and more prominently into the general consciousness.

Katie and I are currently finalising two new titles for publication later this year.
It began with Lights; for John, with appearance of a cloud of small lights in the hall the first week he moved into Brackenbeck.

For Katie, over two hundred miles away, it began with the sudden appearance of strange, tiny twinkling lights in an old haunted cottage.

All the decisions we were each making were drawing us together.  What we later termed, ‘Small Transient Lights’, (STLs) led me out of the shadows of my old life, and eventually to Brackenbeck, where our extraordinary experiences with the mysterious luminosities have occurred.

They found themselves at the centre of multi-levelled phenomena, now photographable but actually visible! As well as mysterious lights flying through the grounds of their home, the authors began to encounter ethereal, angelic-like apparitions that became increasingly interactive. The existence of these “Light-Forms” posed fundamental questions, which opened a doorway onto a wider Reality.

After four years the authors’ experiences and research reveals a startling new perspective which has a bearing on all supernatural phenomena, perhaps on the very nature of Reality itself!

Documented by over 70 astounding photographs, Beyond Photography is the fullest account in the world of one couples’ experience of the paranormal.
