Behind the Mumbai attacks
Seeing the escalation in violence in Mubai this week Paul wanted to find out more about the people behind the attacks.
So he invited Professor Eric Groves from Salford’s Centre for International Security and War Studies to find out what he knows of the motives of the terrorists and what the international consequences of the attack are.
Professor Groves said that he believed the terrorists were from a banned organisation called the Students’ Islamic Movement of India who are fighting to convert India into an Islamic state. Groves also added that initial sources are reporting that they had arrived in Mumbai by a boat from Karachi in Pakistan.
With tensions between India and Pakistan having been strained for years over the disputed ownership of Kashmir, this latest news will only further damage relations between the two nuclear powers.
